Some photographs showing the stages of building work of St Anthony’s. Top left shows the Church ready for the Opening Mass on 3 November 1960. The Top right shows the Church without the central dome. Below left shows the clergy, architects, and workmen at the summit, with Father blessing the Cross and bottom right shows the full scale of the building site.

St Anthony’s is a landmark of Wythenshawe.

Built by the local Catholic community, who raised £100,000 in 1957-1959, St Anthony’s is so imposing one can see it from the air, departing and landing at Manchester Airport, which is within the parish boundary.

The size and scale of the Church is testament to the faith and sacrifices made by generations who have gone before us. Now, over 65 years on from the Opening of St Anthony’s by Bishop Murphy on 3 November 1960, the Church is in desperate need of a new roof to ensure that St Anthony’s future as the Church serves Wythenshawe for, God willing, at least another 65 years to come.

Please consider giving whatever you can to support the works necessary to replace the Church roof.
